We are rethinking our processes in terms of sustainability
The greatest treasure of our beautiful federal state - apart from the people who live here - is its unique nature. It is the basis for the special holiday feeling that you experience every time you stay with us at the Baltic Sea. Preserving this treasure is our greatest task. As a large hotel surrounded by the most beautiful nature and right by the sea, we believe that sustainability is more than just a choice - it is a responsibility we have towards our planet and future generations. To this end, we are constantly evolving and trying to conserve resources wherever possible and involve our team and our guests so that future generations can also spend their holidays on the Mecklenburg coast.
While we minimise our impact on the environment and encourage eco-friendly behaviour, we know that every small step counts - and we are proud of the changes we have achieved so far.
Our path to sustainability is an exciting journey characterised by learning, growth and a commitment to improvement. We dare to be bold by also taking big steps to reorganise our daily and strategic processes.
However, the courage to change also involves reflecting and admitting when some steps are out of proportion to what is on offer. We are therefore delighted that the lively dialogue with you, our guests, about the numerous initiatives at our hotel is taking place very actively and would be delighted if you would also give us your feedback on how you experience these measures during your stay with us. We want the balance between the needs and wishes of our guests and sustainability to be in the best possible harmony. For you, this means the highest possible level of comfort on the one hand - and for us, it means that we will continue to pursue the path to sustainability with determination.
An excerpt: with creative, alternative options, we offer our guests an attractive and well-cared-for stay, while still giving them the choice to do without daily room cleaning. We pack high-quality spa bags for you and are happy if we can do without disposable bath slippers in the process.
Read about our sustainability initiatives below.
Thank you for accompanying and supporting us so wonderfully on our path to greater sustainability. Thank you also for all the critical voices that always give us the opportunity to reflect and change our perspective.
Let's develop the luxury of the hotel industry gently and sustainably together.
Did you know that we use more than 500 pairs of bathing slippers in a normal month with average occupancy? They are usually disposed of after a single use and thus produce a large amount of waste.
In your room you will find a sustainable jute bag including a bathrobe and sauna towels, which you can use free of charge for your SPA visit for the duration of your stay. We do not issue disposable bath slippers - in the interests of sustainability - and thus reduce a lot of waste.
So please feel free to bring your own slippers . Alternatively, you can purchase sustainable flip-flops from us at the SPA reception.
Did you know that a minibar in a room consumes almost four times as much electricity as a conventional household refrigerator? Yet it only has a quarter of the volume. This is anything but efficient and a convenience at the expense of the environment. We no longer consider this to be in keeping with the times.
Alternatively, we offer you a 24-hour selection of drinks from our lobby snack bar.
Please contact us if you have an acute need for cooling medication and the like.

“I recommend a sailing trip from Kühlungsborn harbour to all guests who are comfortable on the water. From spring through to late summer, you can set sail on the catamaran ‘Viamar’ out onto the Baltic Sea. Enjoy a relaxing time on board and the view of Kühlungsborn and the Bastorf lighthouse – a truly unique experience from the sea.”
“If you’d like to experience the green side of Kühlungsborn, treat yourself to a trip to the Kühlung – the gentle range of hills that gives our town its name. It often keeps thunderstorms at bay and ensures that the sun shines here frequently. The most beautiful stretch awaits you between Bastorf and Steffenshagen: small valleys, winding paths and a feeling almost like being in the low mountains. The route from Kröpelin is particularly impressive – first forest, then suddenly a sweeping view over Kühlungsborn and the Baltic Sea. All around lie cosy villages such as Hohen Niendorf or Wichmannsdorf with its viewing tower. And north of the Kühlung you’ll find many spots from which you can look far out over the Baltic Sea. Whether a short loop or a long tour: if you want to combine nature, tranquillity and the sea, this is the perfect place for you. Enjoy exploring!"
“I can highly recommend a visit to the Ghost Forest near Nienhagen. This enchanting coastal forest captivates visitors with its mysteriously shaped trees, which, shaped by the wind and the sea, create an almost fairy-tale setting. Combined with the view of the Baltic Sea, it’s a real highlight. There are also food and drink available on site, as well as public toilets that are kept very clean.”
“For anyone who’d like to get active, I’ve got two great recommendations in Rostock. ‘Flip and Fly’ is very popular – it’s a large trampoline park for all ages. I also recommend the ‘HCC Rostock’. There are various ways to get active there. Whether it’s badminton, squash, beach volleyball or table tennis, there’s always something to suit your mood. In addition, the ‘HCC’ has several escape rooms, as well as mini-golf, bowling and laser tag.”
“I always enjoy taking the Molli with my grandchildren. The journey is always a little adventure for explorers of all ages. Along the route, you can see the diversity of our landscape, with its vast fields, beautiful coastal region and, in spring, stunning rapeseed blossoms. From Kühlungsborn via Heiligendamm to Bad Doberan, you get a taste of the region’s history.”
“I recommend a trip to the Baltic resort of Rerik. The town is situated on a cliff-top, right next to a natural beach and the tranquil Salzhaff – perfect for getting away from it all. I particularly enjoy the two-hour trip on the MS ‘Ostseebad Rerik’. You sail along the Wustrow peninsula, take in the nature reserve, pass the mouth of the Salzhaff heading towards the Baltic Sea, and catch sight of Vogelinsel and the island of Poel along the way. To round off the trip, it’s well worth popping into Café Lene. There you can enjoy delicious fish rolls whilst taking in the view of the Salzhaff.”
“One of my favourite places for a little break is the Detlefsen Fish Farm in Parkentin. The farm still operates today according to the motto of the Cistercian monks, and the fish ponds date back to the time of Doberan Abbey. I particularly enjoy walking through the Hütter Wohld, past the ponds and impressive beech trees. At the end of the path, I enjoy a tasty meal at the fisherman’s under the open sky.”
“I recommend a cycle ride around the Salzhaff, which is perfect for an eventful day out. The circular route is about 30 to 40 kilometres long and takes you through beautiful, open countryside. Along the way, it’s well worth stopping off at the Schliemann Museum in Neubukow, which fits neatly into the route. Afterwards, it’s a good idea to pop into one of the small cafés in the area and take a break. Further along the route, you’ll also pass through Nantrow. Here you can stop by a traditional farm shop, which is right on the route and fits in well with the tour. For me, this cycle route is a perfect combination of exercise, short stops and varied scenery.”
